.Ginger's Story:
Sometimes you gotta clean the truck
We just came off of the 4th of July run! I am guessing this goes the same way at many houses be it the weekend horse show or our little 1500 mile trip to go chase down the top 50 in the world. When we left the driveway on July 1st the rig was clean, citrus washed even! The camper was in order, the truck was vacuumed, every leg boot was in the proper place and even the new little puppy had a bath before venturing out of the drive way on our mission. I was brave enough this morning to assess the damage. You could feed an entire shelter thanksgiving dinner with the left over popcorn, trail mix and pretzels on the floor of the pickup. The mud in the camper was at least 6 inches deep and somehow there was a half-eaten yogurt in the tiny bathroom. Leg boots could be found in 4 separate compartments and partially filled hay bags had spilled in 2 of the 3 under compartments of the mangers. Sigh!!!
I sat on the couch this morning for my quite time with the Lord and realized that sometimes after these runs my soul looks a great deal like my poor rig. Let’s see……. There is unforgiveness for the rodeo judge that had an idea different than mine that may result in a fine…. That’s going to have to be cleaned up. There was the ugly comment about the girls jeans, probably resulting from my wounded pride that she looked better in them than I ever could….. Yep that will have to be mopped up. Oh and let’s not forget the complete ungratefulness that my truck and trailer ran perfectly all week, my horses are sound and we all came home in one piece, only a little less successful than we had hoped…… we may have to take me to the detail shop to get that stain out.
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the task at hand that we forget the very details that are imperative to our success at the task. If you are so busy getting to the rodeo that you lose your leg boots and cripple your horse you have missed the mark. Much the same if you are too busy being at the rodeo or getting to the rodeo to keep you spiritual tank full and you don’t represent our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in a manner that glorifies Him and draws others to him…. You have really really missed the mark. When life gets hectic and the pressure is on our time with the Lord is sometimes one of the easiest things to compromise. But the bible tells us to put on the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6:13-14 “Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day, and, having done all to stand. Stand therefore. “(Amplified) We would not even consider stepping out the trailer without our clothes on. But how many times do we rush out of the door spiritually naked and just asking the devil to eat our lunch?
It is time for me to refill my tank. Remember when Elijah had just finished slaying all of the prophets of Bail (1 Kings 18) and running a marathon, and then the next day he was hiding from one woman wanting God to kill him? I feel the same this morning after the 4th of July run! And what did God give him? A good meal and a long nap was the start. I am not superwoman. First I need rest and to get my body right again. Then I need to start cleaning out the junk. A repentant heart is a good way to begin. God knew from the beginning we could not live a perfect life; that is why He sent his Son Jesus. He is faithful to forgive us, but we have to confess our sins with a repentant heart. Next, I am going to crawl on my spiritual Daddy (God’s) lap and just hang out for a while, let Him remind me that he loves me and that I am His kid. I am going to soak up his grace and tell Him how thankful I am for my relationship with Him and for all of the things He has blessed me with. Perhaps some praise and worship and for sure some study of his word. Until all of this is back in order, what the earthly pick up and trailer look like simply does not matter!
